Markdown to Word — Convert Markdown to DOCX Online

Write Markdown and download it as a polished Word document. Headings map to Word heading styles, lists stay lists, tables stay tables, and everything is produced locally in this tab.

This tool runs entirely in your browser — your files and text never leave this tab.

The DOCX is assembled in your browser with a document-generation library. Text is never sent to a server — there is no upload, form, beacon or log containing your Markdown.

Supported formats

  • Input: Markdown pasted into the textarea.
  • Output: a .docx file with real Word heading styles, list and table formatting.
  • Download the finished document, or copy the input to keep both versions.

What this tool does

Your Markdown is parsed and sanitized, then rebuilt as a .docx file where the heading levels use Word’s built-in Heading 1–6 styles, lists use real Word lists, and tables are inserted as genuine Word tables. Open it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice and the outline and structure are immediately editable.

Who it is for

Writers drafting in Markdown who must deliver a .docx to clients or colleagues, teams standardizing on Markdown but reporting in Word, students exporting notes into a format their institution accepts, and anyone who wants an editable Word copy of a Markdown file.

How formatting maps

H1–H6 become heading styles so a table of contents picks them up. Bullet and numbered lists stay lists, block quotes become indented quotes, links keep their URL next to the text, and tables convert to real cells with a header row and light shading.

Safe by construction

The Markdown is parsed and sanitized before any document is built, the same way the Word-to-PDF pipeline sanitizes HTML. Scripts and raw HTML in the source are never carried into the .docx.

Limitations

  • Images are not embedded; an image reference is kept as an alt-text note.
  • Fenced code is included as monospaced text, not a themed code style.
  • Complex GFM extensions beyond tables and task lists are simplified to plain text.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Levels 1 to 6 map to Word’s Heading 1–6 styles, so the navigation pane and automatic table of contents in Word list them correctly.
