Every conversion on Convert.rest runs entirely inside your browser tab. When you drop a PDF onto the converter, a pre-compiled WebAssembly program reads the pages, extracts the text layer, and rebuilds it as an editable DOCX — no bytes are transmitted anywhere, at any time.
Most online converters work the opposite way: your file is uploaded to a server, converted there, and then "deleted". You have to trust whatever happens to that copy. With Convert.rest there is no server to trust and nothing to delete — your documents physically cannot be intercepted, read, or stored by anyone.
This is private by construction, not by policy. There is no account system to secure, no database to encrypt and no breach to report, because the architecture simply has no place where your content could be stored. Not yet. OCR support is planned for a future update. For now, only text-based PDFs convert to editable Word files — the guide explains how to tell the difference.
Will complex layouts be preserved?
Text, tables, font sizes and bold styling are preserved. Multi-column layouts and floating text boxes can shift slightly; a quick proofread after conversion fixes most of it.
Can you convert very large PDFs?
Files up to 50 MB are accepted. Processing happens entirely on your device, so long documents simply take more time — there is no page limit.
Can I convert a fillable form PDF?
Yes for the visible text and structure — fields become editable content in the Word file. Rare exception: PDFs whose forms depend on custom JavaScript may flatten; do a quick check of the result after converting.
