Every conversion on Convert.rest runs entirely inside your browser tab. When you drop a Word file onto the converter, a pre-compiled WebAssembly program opens the document, processes it, and rebuilds it as a PDF — no bytes are transmitted anywhere, at any time.
Most online converters work the opposite way: your file is uploaded to a server, converted there, and then "deleted". You have to trust whatever happens to that copy. With Convert.rest there is no server to trust and nothing to delete — your documents physically cannot be intercepted, read, or stored by anyone.
This is private by construction, not by policy. There is no account system to secure, no database to encrypt and no breach to report, because the architecture simply has no place where your content could be stored. It also means the converter's speed never depends on how busy our servers are, and you can convert as often and as much as you like without ever hitting a quota.

Conversion is fast and reliable for the vast majority of documents. Here is what to check if something unexpected happens:
Legacy .doc files, password-protected documents, or files using rare embedded features can fail in-browser. Save the document as .docx immediately before converting — File → Save As — and retry; most cases resolve instantly.
The engine is built on modern DOCX parsing, and Microsoft's old binary .doc format is not yet handled. In Word, use File → Save As → Word Document (.docx), then convert normally.
Files up to 50 MB are accepted. Large documents simply take longer because all processing happens on your device. For batch jobs, keep the total under about 200 MB for smooth performance.
Current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge. The tool needs WebAssembly, which all modern browsers provide; very old browsers may not work.
The conversion stops and the file in progress is discarded — nothing is left on your device beyond the original document. Simply run the conversion again when you are ready; batch mode lets you convert one file at a time.
