1. The core principle: client-side processing

When you convert a file with Convert.rest, the conversion runs locally in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly technology. Your file’s content, name, and metadata never leave your device. We have no server that receives, stores, or processes your documents — this is a technical fact, not merely a policy promise. In practice it means that interception, retention, and accidental exposure are impossible by construction: there is quite literally nothing in our custodianship to expose.

2. Data we do not collect

We do not collect document contents, uploaded files, email addresses, or account data, because no registration exists on this site. Converted files exist only in your browser memory and disappear when you close the tab.

To be explicit about the negatives: we do not profile visitors, we do not fingerprint or track you across the web, we do not sell or licence usage statistics, and we do not operate any advertising network on the site. The absence of a backend is not a design detail we describe in marketing copy — it is the whole point of the service.

3. Anonymous usage analytics

If analytics are enabled, we record only anonymous, aggregate events (for example: "a conversion completed") with anonymized IP addresses. No document data, filenames, or personally identifying information is ever included. We do not build profiles, we do not track you across the web via this site, and we never sell or share any aggregated statistics with advertisers. You can block these scripts with any content blocker without affecting the converter.

4. Browser storage

The site stores a single preference in your browser’s local storage: whether you dismissed the language suggestion banner. No tracking cookies are used. The conversion engine and its fonts are fetched as normal website resources and cached by your browser like any other page asset.

5. Your rights

Under GDPR and similar regulations you have the right to access, rectify, erase, and restrict the processing of your personal data. Since we hold no personal data about you, there is typically nothing to request — but you may contact us at any time with privacy questions. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority should you believe the processing of your data violates applicable law.

6. Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the update will be published on this page with a new revision date. Material changes will be highlighted so you can see at a glance what was modified. Contact: privacy@convert.rest.

7. Retention and deletion

Since no document data is ever transmitted to us, there is nothing for us to retain — and therefore nothing to delete on request. Your files live in your browser memory until the tab closes, and the downloaded output files live only on your own device. You control both, entirely.

8. Children’s privacy

Convert.rest is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect any data from children — in fact we collect no personal data from anyone. Where GDPR applies to minors, there is simply nothing in this service that would acquire or process a minor’s personal information.
